Police Reveal Flower Theft Syndicate In Medan, Pematangsiantar And Deli Serdang, 3 Perpetrators Arrested

MEDAN - The police uncovered a syndicate of flower theft in the areas of Medan City, Pematangsiantar and Deli Serdang Regency. Three perpetrators were arrested.

The three perpetrators who were arrested were named, Pandi Irawan, Irwan Lubis (30) and Dian Ariandi (25). They were arrested based on reports from residents of Tanjung Morawa Subdistrict, Deli Serdang Regency, who lost their flowers. Upon the residents' reports, the Tanjung Morawa Police immediately moved and hunted them down.

"Then they were arrested on Jalan Gatot Subroto KM , Lubuk Raya Village, Padang Hulu District, Tebing Tinggi City," said Tanjung Morawa Police Chief, AKP Sawangin, Friday, September 10.

Sawangin explained that another perpetrator, named Lolo, had run away. The perpetrators are residents of the City of Tebing Tinggi.

When in action, the perpetrators always use motorbikes. After that, they took the expensive flowers belonging to the victims.

"They came from Tebing Tinggi, riding motorbikes and they, too, used shabu-shabu," said Sawangin.

From the interrogation carried out, it is known that the perpetrators have repeatedly acted. In fact, the area of operation is not only in Deli Serdang.

"In the Medan area and the Pematang Siantar area (they) are also taking action," he explained.

However, Sawangin did not specify the number of flowers stolen by the perpetrators in the cities of Medan and Pematangsiantar. Meanwhile, in the Deli Serdang area, it was recently recorded that 50 flower pots belonging to residents and flower shop owners were stolen.

"In July 2021, in Tanjung Baru Village, Tanjung Morawa Sub-district, beside the Chinese cemetery they stole 25 pots of aglonema flowers. Then in the same sub-district, in August, they stole 30 pots of Aglonema flowers," said Sawangin.

From the loot they made a profit of millions of rupiah. However, Sawangin did not specify the types of flowers that had been sold.

"There is one flower that costs Rp. 900 thousand. This is still profit from interest, one victim reported to the Tanjung Morawa Police. There were 4 who reported and the number of missing flowers was (more) than 30," he explained.

For their actions, the interest thief syndicate is subject to Article 363 of the Criminal Code. The maximum penalty is 7 years in prison.
