Looking For Potential BI Deputy Governor Candidates In The Middle Of A Pandemic

JAKARTA - Commission XI DPR RI conducted a fit and proper test on three candidates for Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI); Juda Agung, Aida S. Budiman, and Doni P. Joewono, for two days, Tuesday and Wednesday, 7-8 July 2020. The three names proposed by President Joko Widodo, if elected, will replace the position of Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia which expires his post on 17 June.

Reporting from the DPR's official website, Wednesday, June 8, DPR RI Commission XI member Rudi Hartono Bangun is looking for one of the candidates, Juda Agung. He asked what policy Juda Agung would undertake if the Financial Services Authority (OJK) was merged with BI again.

He also asked for his opinion on the burdens that BI would experience if it also supervised the banking and financial services industry.

"What is the opinion of the candidate regarding what policies will be used if the OJK is merged with BI, and what is the burden of BI in terms of supervision of banking and the Non-Bank Financial Industry. Then what about the burden sharing scheme in financing the national economic recovery program," said Rudi.

This NasDem Party politician also questioned the Deputy candidate's strategy in bringing BI to create a healthy performance for financial institutions, especially banks. Rudi asked Juda Agung to explain what policies had been issued during his tenure as Assistant Governor and Head of the Macroprudential Policy Department at BI. Rudi also explores what motivates the deputy candidates to nominate themselves as BI Deputy Governor candidates.

According to him, the policies that must be taken by the office holders must later contribute to the people. "The candidate wants to become Deputy Governor of BI, of course his aspirations are high and that position is a public position as an official in this country. I win over what motivated him to become a Deputy Governor candidate and what can be done to the Indonesian people with policies that can touching, it must be presented to Commission XI ", added Rudi.

Other questions, Rudi also had time to ask, starting from the facilities and monthly salary as Deputy Governor of BI, to strategic ideas in restoring the MSME sector that was affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. "As a high-ranking BI official, of course you already know the facilities and salaries that will be received. Then, what are the ideas and strategies if chosen later in terms of caring for the post-Covid-19 MSME sector and promoting an inclusive economy that is relevant in the context of economic equality and reducing poverty in economic recovery, "he explained.

He hopes that the Deputy Governor of BI who will be elected will be able to provide bright ideas in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic situation as needed today. "In the midst of this pandemic situation, Indonesia is experiencing a lot of financial deficit shocks, I hope that the elected deputy will be able to provide bright ideas to solve this problem," concluded the legislator for the electoral district of North Sumatra III.
