Shifting Seasons, BMKG Asks Balinese To Beware Of Extreme Weather

DENPASAR - The transition from the dry season to the rainy season has the potential to cause extreme weather. BMKG Region III Denpasar asked residents to be aware of extreme weather.

The extreme weather was influenced by tropical cyclones conson and chantu in northern Indonesia. Extreme weather can include heavy rain, strong winds and thunderstorms.

Head of the Regional III BMKG Center, Agus Wahyu Raharjo, explained that extreme weather still has the potential to occur throughout September-October 2021.

"Given the current state of transition, heavy rains are common, which can be accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms," Raharjo said in a written statement, Thursday, September 9.

In addition, BMKG also asked local governments to anticipate this transitional season. One of them is optimizing drainage channels before the rainy season comes so that no flooding occurs.

"So that when it rains, there will be no overflow of water that causes puddles and floods," he added.

The BMKG stated that Bali will experience a rainy season from October 2021 to February 2022. Meanwhile, the peak of the rainy season is predicted to occur in December 2021 with a rain intensity of 13 percent, January 2022 with an intensity of 27 percent and February 2022 with an intensity of 60 percent.

Therefore, residents in Bali are asked to anticipate a number of impacts of the rainy season such as floods and landslides.

"Especially in areas that are prone to flooding, landslides and puddles after the rain," said Raharjo.
