AMBON - Ambon City Mayor Richard Louhenapessy stated that based on data from the local Health Service, the infant and toddler mortality rate in the city has decreased, but maternal mortality during childbirth has increased.

"In 2017 there were 13 infant deaths per 1,000 live births. This figure has decreased in 2020 to 11 deaths per 1,000 live births," said Richard Louhenapessy when conveying the achievements of the Healthy Ambon Program in Ambon, reported by Antara, Thursday, September 9.

Infant mortality is the average age of 0 years for every 1,000 live births. Meanwhile, deaths of children aged 0-4 years per 1,000 live births in 2017 were recorded at 12 children under five. This figure continues to decrease in line with the improvement in community nutrition to 3 children under five who died per 1,000.

He said the maternal mortality rate during pregnancy to childbirth in 2017 was three people per 100,000. This number has increased in 2020 to eight people per 100,000 KLH.

He explained that various efforts were made, including improving the nutritional status of the community, through the provision of additional food for infants, toddlers, and pregnant women. population welfare and health status.

Life expectancy in Ambon City in 2017 was 69.8 years, increasing to 70.25 years in 2020.

In addition, the prevalence of malnutrition is an indicator that describes the number of children under five who experience malnutrition. In 2017 there were 15 children under five.

Various efforts made by the health office have suppressed the increase in under-fives with malnutrition. In 2020, there are only three under-fives with malnutrition.

Also of concern is the prevalence of stunting, which describes the number of children aged 0-2 years who are stunted.

In 2017 the prevalence of stunting was recorded at 17 percent and various efforts made to improve community nutrition, including inviting the people of Ambon City to like to eat fish, have reduced the prevalence of stunting to 14 percent in 2020.
