Don't Speculate, DPR Commission III Asks The Public To Wait Patiently For The Results Of The Tangerang Prison Fire Investigation

JAKARTA - Member of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Sari Yuliati, asked the public not to speculate regarding the fire in the Class I prison in Tangerang, Banten. He appealed to the public to be patient while waiting for the results of the investigation.

"I hope the public will not speculate on the fire incident and wait for the results of the investigation," said Sari Yuliati to reporters, Thursday, September 9.

The Golkar politician expressed his condolences to the families of the victims. Because, in this incident, 44 prisoners died.

Sari also highlighted the problem of overcapacity that occurs in prisons in Indonesia, which has always been a classic problem, but has not yet been unraveled. According to him, correction of the problem of overcapacity in prisons must be carried out from upstream to downstream.

"This overcapacity problem is a classic problem in prisons in Indonesia, serious improvements from upstream, namely regarding laws to downstream in the physical form of prisons, are absolutely necessary to improve prison conditions in the future," said Sari. The Tangerang Class I prison caught fire on Wednesday, September 8, in the early hours of the morning. So far, the cause of the fire is still being investigated. However, it is suspected that the cause was an electric short circuit.

However, as the investigation process progressed, the police found a suspected criminal act behind the fire incident. To prove it, 20 witnesses have been questioned.
