KPK Chairman: West Java Ranks 1 In Corruption Cases In The Region

BANDUNG - Chairman of the KPK Firli Bahuri reminded all members of the West Java DPRD to be aware of corruption-prone points, especially in carrying out the duties and functions of the DPRD related to budgeting.

"There are four stages in the council's duties related to budgeting. Of the four stages, all are prone to corruption. Starting from the preparation, approval, and ratification, there are vulnerabilities, implementation is there. Lastly, supervision is also vulnerable," said Firli, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, September 8. .

This was conveyed by Firli in front of 120 members of the West Java DPRD at the Coordination Meeting of the Integrated Corruption Eradication Program at the West Java Provincial DPRD building.

Firli said that the most commonly used modes are extortion, gratification, and bribery.

He reminded the role and responsibility of the DPRD to realize national goals in the context of eradicating corruption and invited participants who were present as children of the nation to contribute to make it happen through good governance and free from corruption.

"It should be remembered that in planning, implementing, and evaluating the APBD, the executive and legislature are partners. They are not competing with each other," said Firli.

Firli revealed that the presence of the KPK in West Java was not without reason. Based on data on corruption cases handled by the KPK in 2004-2020, there were 26 out of 34 provinces where corruption cases occurred.

"Of the top ten corruption cases in the regions handled by the KPK, West Java is ranked first with 101 cases," he said.

However, Firli reminded that the task of the KPK is not only taking action. As mandated by law, the KPK's other duties are prevention, coordination, monitoring, supervision, prosecution, and execution.

In carrying out prevention and coordination tasks, Firli conveyed the KPK's commitment to continue to encourage improvement efforts in the regions as well as reminding all executive levels in the regional government, legislature, and business entities not to fall into acts of corruption.

"I believe that my friends were chosen by the people. For that, hold on to the people's trust. Don't miss the five-year service period because of corruption," said Firli.

Meanwhile, the Chair of the West Java DPRD, Taufik Hidayat, hopes that the KPK will provide assistance in carrying out the duties and functions of the DPRD.

"Hopefully, the arrival of the KPK is part of efforts to create a good and clean government. We hope that the assistance of the KPK, especially in the effective and efficient APBD budgeting function in accordance with the laws and regulations, can be arranged as well as possible," said Taufik.
