The Waitele River In Buru Regency, Maluku Overflows, Hundreds Of Hectares Of Farmers' Rice Fields Are Threatened With Crop Failure

MALUKU - The high rainfall has caused the Waitele River to overflow, submerging rice fields belonging to residents of Waekasa Village, Waeapo District, Buru Regency, Maluku.

"A total of 300 hectares of rice fields belonging to farmers in the area were flooded," said member of the Maluku DPRD, Azis Hentihu in Ambon, Antara, Wednesday, September 8.

The member of the Maluku DPRD from the constituencies of Buru and South Buru admitted that he had tried to coordinate with the relevant agencies to carry out an emergency response.

According to him, the intensity of recent rainfall is high enough that it has an impact on the damage to basic infrastructure, including hundreds of hectares of rice fields owned by farmers on Buru Island.

This condition can also cause hundreds of hectares of rice in these fields to have the potential to experience crop failure and farmers will certainly experience losses.

"Emergency response actions are urgently needed to complete and find solutions for disaster management and prevention of further disasters," said Azis.

For this reason, Commission II of the Maluku DPRD has responded quickly to this condition by communicating this natural disaster to the Maluku River Basin Center and the Maluku Regional Disaster Management Agency to carry out emergency responses.

So that the Maluku BWS has confirmed that today it will go directly to the disaster site and handle the disaster ladder.

"We will continue to monitor and ensure all technical steps for disaster management are effective," said Azis.
