Tangerang Class I Prison Fire, Drug Convicts, Murderers, And Terrorists Become Victims

JAKARTA - A total of 41 inmates died in a deadly fire at the Class I prison in Tangerang. Based on the data, some of them are prisoners of murder to terrorism cases.

"Of the 41 who died, we apologize for one crime of murder, one terrorism, and the other with drugs," said Minister of Law and Human Rights (Menkumham) Yasonna Laoly to reporters, Wednesday, September 8.

Then, there are also two prisoners who are foreign nationals (foreigners) from South Africa and Portugal. However, there is no detail about the case that ensnared them.

"We have cooperated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the embassy, consular of the country concerned. Later, they will be linked to their families," said Yasonna.

On the other hand, Yasonna stressed that she was deeply saddened by the incident. In fact, it will give condolence money to the bereaved family.

"We on behalf of the ministry convey our deepest condolences to the entire family," said Yasonna.

The Tangerang Class I prison caught fire on Wednesday, September 8, in the early hours of the morning. As a result of the fire, 41 inmates died.

In addition, it was recorded that 8 inmates suffered serious injuries and 72 inmates suffered minor injuries. They have also been taken to the clinic for treatment. So far, the cause of the fire is still being investigated. However, it is suspected that the cause was an electric short circuit.
