Menkumham Yasonna Alludes To Electrical Installation In Tangerang Class 1 Prison, It's Been 42 Years Hasn't Been Repaired
JAKARTA - The Minister of Law and Human Rights (Menkumham) Yasonna Laoly has strengthened the provisional suspicion that the cause of the Tangerang Class I prison fire was due to an electrical short circuit.
The reason is, since the building was built and operated, no electrical installation repairs have been carried out.
"This Tangerang Class I prison was built in 1972, it has been 42 years since then we have not repaired the electrical installation, there is additional power but the electricity installation is still ongoing," Yasonna told reporters, Wednesday, September 8.
However, it is emphasized that it is still only a provisional assumption. To prove this, the Police are currently carrying out investigative steps.
"However, now the Puslabfor Polri, Dircrimum Polda Metro Jaya are investigating the cause of the fire. Because we don't want to speculate," said Yasonna.
With the investigation carried out by the Police, the cause of the fire will be known based on evidence. So, there are no more assumptions that develop.
"But what we see is still a temporary guess because of a short circuit," Yasonna said briefly.
The Tangerang Class I prison caught fire on Wednesday, September 8, in the early hours of the morning. As a result of the fire, 41 inmates died.
In addition, it was recorded that 8 inmates suffered serious injuries and 72 inmates suffered minor injuries. They have been taken to the clinic for treatment.
So far, the cause of the fire is still being investigated. However, it is suspected that the cause was an electric short circuit.
