The Seconds Of The Deadly Fire Of Class I Prison In Tangerang

JAKARTA - Minister of Law and Human Rights (Menkumham) Yasonna Laoly explained the moments of the deadly fire in the Class I prison in Tangerang. In which, 41 inmates died as a result of the incident.

The fire, which was suspected to have been caused by an electric short circuit, was discovered by the supervisory officers at around 01:45 WIB. Even then after the fire grew.

"Supervisory officers from above saw that fire broke out," Yasonna told reporters, Wednesday, September 8.

Then, the supervisor immediately contacted the guard. Next, ask the fire brigade for help.

"13 minutes after being called 12 firefighters came," he said.

Meanwhile, for the process of rescuing the inmates, Yasonna continued, not all inmates were rescued. Because the fire spreads quickly.

However, the duty officers have tried to extinguish the fire with a light fire extinguisher (APAR). Only, it didn't work.

"Due to the rapidly spreading fire, some rooms were not able to be opened because the fire had spread so fast," said Yasonna.

Finally, the fire was extinguished for an hour and a half.

A fire broke out at the Tangerang Class I Prison on Wednesday, September 8, in the early hours of the morning. As a result of the fire, 41 inmates died.

In addition, it was recorded that 8 inmates suffered serious injuries and 72 inmates suffered minor injuries. They have been taken to the clinic for treatment.

So far, the cause of the fire is still being investigated. However, it is suspected that the cause was an electric short circuit.
