13-year-old Boy Kills A Student In New York
NEW YORK - New York City Police have arrested a 13-year-old boy for the murder of a student at a park in Manhattan, Friday, December 13.
The victim, Tessa Majors, 18, was stabbed several times with a knife on the night of Wednesday, December 11. He was stabbed during a robbery while walking in Harlem Morningside Park near his school, Barnard College. According to the New York Police Department, the Majors' attackers were three.
When injured, Majors staggered out of the park for help to a nearby school security post. However, when he arrived at the hospital for treatment, he was pronounced dead.
Majors is a freshman at an all-girls college after leaving his home in Charlottesville, Virginia, to move to the city. He is the bass player in a band called Patient 0, which released their first album in September.
"One person has been arrested and this is still an active investigation," said NYPD Chief Detective Rodney Harrison late Friday without providing additional information on the identity of the detained person.
Police found the 13-year-old boy on Thursday while combing the lobby of a nearby building, CBS2 television station, reported, citing unnamed police officials. His clothes matched the suspect's description, and he was found with a knife, the station reported.
Morningside Park has long had a reputation for being unsafe and the site of numerous crimes, including murder. Even so, the crime rate in New York City has been decreasing every year.
