Parent Case Of Cungkil Mata Anak, Komnas PA: Perpetrators Should Receive Maximum Punishment For Jera
JAKARTA - The National Commission for Child Protection (Komnas PA) again condemned violence against minors in Gowa Regency, South Sulawesi. The victim, a 6-year-old boy, is suspected of being the victim of his family's gift.
The chairman of Komnas PA, Arist Merdeka Sirait, explained that the acts of violence carried out by the parents, uncles and grandfathers who gouged out the victim's eyeballs were crimes against humanity.
"Sadistic, vile, and barbaric is what deserves to be accused of the father, mother, grandfather and grandmother and uncle of the victim," said Arist in a written statement received by reporters, Tuesday, September 7.
Komnas PA also supports uncle US (44) and grandfather BAR (70) who have been named as suspects and receive punishment as stipulated in Law Number 35 of 2014 concerning Child Protection.
In addition, the parents of victims of HAS (43) and TAU (47) if declared not suffering from mental disorders so that they can be designated as suspects by investigators from the Gowa Police Satreskrim.
"Considering that the perpetrators were their own parents and assisted by the victim's close family, namely the victim's uncle and grandmother. The punishment for each perpetrator can be added to one-third of the main crime," he said.
Arist said, the perpetrators could be given a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison if found guilty of committing a crime of violence against children.
According to him, the maximum penalty needs to be set in order to prevent cases of violence against children from occurring. Moreover, the perpetrator of the violence was none other than the closest person to the victim, as happened in Gowa Regency.
"The cruelty and barbarity of this case must be a lesson for all people, society, government and the state that children must receive maximum protection," he said.
As is known, the case of gouging out the victim's eyeballs by her parents, uncle and grandfather took place at the victim's house, Gowa Regency on Wednesday, September 1.
The barbaric act was uncovered after the victim screamed for help when her mother tried to gouge out her eyeballs. This scream was heard by neighbors and uncles of other victims who rushed to help.
Although it was prevented, the victim suffered injuries, and is now undergoing intensive treatment at the Sheikh Yusuf Gowa Hospital and has to undergo recovery surgery due to a gouge wound in his eye.
