Waiting For The Performance Of The West Kalimantan Regional Police In The Midst Of Pressure To Complete The Case Of The Destruction Of The Ahmadiyah Mosque
JAKARTA - The West Kalimantan (West Kalimantan) Regional Police are investigating the case of the destruction of a mosque belonging to the Indonesian Ahmadiyya Community (JAI). However, several parties have requested that the handling of the case be withdrawn to the National Police Headquarters so that it can be completed more quickly.
The vandalism began when someone appeared who provoked the masses to tear down a mosque in Balai Harapan Village, Temunak District, Sintang, West Kalimantan, last September 3.
As a result, a crowd of about 200 people was provoked. Until finally they destroyed and burned the mosque.
In handling this case, the West Kalimantan Police have arrested 10 suspected perpetrators. They were detained in several different locations.
The Head of Public Relations of the West Kalimantan Police, Kombes Donny Charles Go, said that from the results of the examination, only nine people were strongly suspected of being involved in the destruction until they were finally named as suspects. The other one is still being investigated.
"Nine have been named as suspects," said Donny.
Currently, the suspects have been detained. They are suspected of Article 170 of the Criminal Code regarding vandalism.
However, it is possible that the number of suspects will continue to grow. Given, the mass involved reached 200 people.
"It's still in the process (of investigations and investigations)," said Donny.
The determination of the suspect in this case seems to be evidence of the ability of the West Kalimantan Police. Because, previously there were parties who requested that the case be handled by the Police Headquarters.
One of the parties who asked for this case to be handled by the National Police Headquarters, namely the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM). The reason is that the local police did not seem to handle the damage to the maximum.
"We think now that the regional police there cannot do it optimally. So we ask the National Police Headquarters to intervene to take this case," said Komnas HAM Commissioner Choirul Anam.
The takeover of the vandalism case, he continued, also needs to be done to prevent similar vandalism from occurring. Anam then mentioned that cases like this usually have a high escalation and must be addressed immediately.
"So to prevent it from happening in other areas, in Kalimantan or in other places. Due to the typology with the previous case, it was exploded in one corner that was difficult to access and so on, spread through social media, eventually exploded in many places," he explained.
"Therefore, we encourage this case to be taken over by the National Police Headquarters to ensure that the same incident should not occur in Kalimantan or in all regions in the archipelago. That is important," Anam added.
Responding to the request, the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police, Komjen Agus Andrianto, emphasized that the West Kalimantan Police were able to handle it. The investigation and investigation process is underway.
"Polda (West Kalimantan) is able to handle it. We provide assistance and if there is a request, we will definitely back up," said Agus.
Separately, the Director of General Crimes at the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police Brigadier General Andi Rian said the West Kalimantan Police team had arrested several perpetrators. Currently, the criminal mastermind or the main perpetrator is being hunted down.
"The West Kalimantan Police Team is pursuing the intellectual actors of the incident," Andi said briefly.
