40 Years In Coma, Former France Defender Dies

JAKARTA - Former France defender Jean-Pierre Adams has died at the age of 73 or nearly 40 after falling into a coma following a medical error.

In 1982, Adams was given a near-fatal dose of anesthetic before undergoing routine knee surgery that caused brain damage.

The former Dakar-born footballer had 22 caps for Les Bleus in the 1970s whose partnership with Marius Tresor was known as the 'Black Guard'.

He played for Nimes from 1970 to 1973 and played for PSG from 1977 to 1979, after joining from Nice.

Since the medical malpractice, Adams has been cared for by his wife, Bernadette.

Now, his two former clubs, Paris St Germain and Nimes, confirmed Adams was gone for good.
