Defense Minister Prabowo: Airlangga Is Developing Two Vaccines, Hopefully It Will Be Finished Soon

SURABAYA - The Indonesian Ministry of Defense cooperates with the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) Surabaya and Airlangga University to develop a number of innovations made by the nation's children.

"I went to ITS today, previously to Unair. We signed a collaboration with Airlangga and ITS in the fields of education and research, then the development of cooperation between science developed on campus and the Ministry of Defense," said Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto at the ITS Campus in Surabaya, reported by Antara, Monday, September 6.

His party wants to use the innovations and works of the nation's children, because they are able to make what is currently needed.

Prabowo explained that the innovation is like Airlangga University which has developed a lot in the medical field, namely vaccines.

"Currently Airlangga is developing two vaccines. Hopefully, it will be finished soon," he said.

Then, Unair has also made innovations for malaria treatment or malaria vaccines.

According to Prabowo, this innovation is very important for the Indonesian people, the TNI, and the people because many people are still infected with malaria and are facing a pandemic.

Meanwhile, for ITS, Prabowo said, they are currently developing ventilators and oxygen concentrators so that they no longer need to import.

"Earlier, there was a ventilator made by our innovative nation. God willing, we will have many orders for our nation's children," said Prabowo. Meanwhile, ITS Chancellor Prof. Mochamad Ashari said Defense Minister Prabowo wanted the ITS oxygen concentrator prototype to be enlarged not only for individuals but sufficient for hospitals or other purposes.

"When the pandemic peaked, we made an oxygen concentrator, which is a device that converts ordinary air into oxygen with a concentration of 93 percent. The Ministry of Defense wants this to be even bigger so that it can be used in hospitals or other purposes," said Ashari.

In addition, Defense Minister Prabowo is also interested in the development of ventilators and electric motorcycles or Gesits.

The Ministry of Defense, continued Ashari, is also interested in developing a number of other innovations, such as The Crocodile submarine.

"We hope that it can be completed and used for the military and regional transportation. We are still waiting for the budget. For the military, we just need to equip the weaponry," he said.
