Researchers Find Map Of Ice Water Flow On Mars

JAKARTA - In the past, it was known that Mars could be inhabited by humans because it was thought that there was water as a life support. However, something caused it to change 3.3 billion years ago, which made Mars lose its atmosphere. The atmosphere that Mars has today is very thin and makes it easier for water to evaporate. If water is on the surface it will evaporate faster.

But a study published this week in a journal published by Geophysical Research Letters suggests that there is a map of water ice. The flow of water ice is one inch below the surface of the planet Mars.

"You don't need a dredger to dig it, just use a shovel. We continue to collect data on the frozen ice on Mars. We focus on the best places for astronauts to land," said Sylvain Piqueux, author of a journal entitled 'Widespread Shallow Water Ice on Mars. at High and Mid Latitudes'.

This discovery shows that there is water on Mars, even though it does freeze slightly. The researchers used data collected by the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter and Mars Odyssey. They can detect heat and the combined data from the two tools at their disposal allows scientists to create maps of where water is trapped below ground level.

Based on research, the map of water ice is below the surface of the northern hemisphere of the planet Mars, called the Arcadia Planitia. The researchers also want to learn more about the water ice below the ground surface that will exist in all seasons on Mars.

"The more we continue to look for ice on the surface, the more we find. Observing Mars with multiple spacecraft over the years continues to provide us with new ways to find this ice," said Mars Research Project Research Deputy Leslie Tamppari.
