Mexican Cartel Continued Attack On Drug Rehabilitation Center Kills 24 People

JAKARTA - A number of armed men attacked a drug rehabilitation center in Irapuato, Mexico, Wednesday, July 1. In this incident, 24 people were killed. Seven others were injured.

Local police suspect that the attack was related to a war between a drug cartel gang that was heating up in Irapuato. According to the Associated Press, the attackers shot everyone at the rehabilitation center. However, the police also confirmed that no one was kidnapped.

Local police said that three of the seven injured were reported to be in serious condition. In fact, residents of Irapuato were panic-stricken because of the circulation of photographs related to the depiction of the atmosphere of the victim who died after being showered with bullets.

Irapuato governor Diego Sinhue Rodríguez Vallejo strongly condemned the attack. Diego accuses the drug cartel of masterminding the events.

“I deeply regret and condemn the events in Irapuato this afternoon. The violence generated by organized crime has not only claimed the lives of young people, but also disturbed the peace of families in Guanajuato. "

This attack on a drug rehabilitation center is not the first. Since the attack that killed 19 people in the rehabilitation center for the city of Chihuahua, North Mexico in 2010, dozens of attacks have followed in other rehabilitation centers. Drug cartel gangs think that the presence of a rehabilitation center is one of the places that has the potential to cut the market for narcotics traffickers.

Not only that, rehabilitation centers are also often used as a shelter for addicts and drug dealers to hide from their rivals on the streets. In fact, this has made rehabilitation centers the target of attacks from competing drug cartel gangs.

Not to mention, the case of alleged cartel gangs forcibly recruiting addicts who grew up in the rehabilitation center. Those who are willing to cooperate will be left alive. Unfortunately, for those who refused, members of the cartel gangs did not hesitate to kill them.
