US Plans To Provide Military Assistance To Ukraine, Kremlin: Friendship Against Russia
JAKARTA - Russia has spoken out regarding the United States' (US) plan to provide military assistance to Ukraine. The comments were delivered directly by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
Peskov in a statement Thursday said the US plan to provide military assistance to Kiev could result in unexpected actions by Ukraine, such as efforts to resolve the crisis in the country's southeast by force.
"We have been paying attention to the United States military aid plan to Ukraine. We think it may be the reason for the unexpected actions by Ukraine, such as the attempt to resolve the inter-Ukrainian conflict in the southeast (of the country) by force. Dangerous", Peskov said on the sidelines. interrupted the Eastern Economic Forum, citing Sputnik News Sept. 2.
The Kremlin also expressed concern the US did not say a word about the Minsk agreement to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who is currently on a working visit to America and held a meeting with President Joe Biden on September 1.
"We have not seen or heard of Washington's recommendation to Zelensky on the implementation of the Minsk agreement. Not a word about it", added Peskov.
The so-called friendship against Russia was high on the agenda of the recent top-level US-Ukrainian negotiations, which is regrettable, Peskov said.
"In general, we can say that we certainly pay attention to the fact that the Russia issue is at the top of the agenda for the US-Ukraine negotiations. Unfortunately, most of it is in a negative context," Peskov said.
"Simply put, it's about the Ukraine-US friendship against Russia. So, they don't keep friendship for themselves, but only against Russia. This causes nothing but regret", Peskov explained.
To note, the conflict between the Government of Ukraine and the breakaway republics of Donetsk and Lugansk has been going on since 2014. The Minsk Agreement, which was designed to find a political solution to the conflict, was negotiated by France, Germany, Russia and Ukraine, which formed the Normandy group in February 2015.
