Jokowi's Hope With Way Sekampung Dam: Farmers' Welfare Increases
JAKARTA - Indonesian President Joko Widodo hopes that the Way Sekampung Dam in Pringsewu Regency, Lampung, which is ready to function, can increase agricultural production and farmers' welfare.
"Production will certainly increase and we hope that the welfare of farmers will also increase," said the President when inaugurating the Way Sekampung Dam, Pringsewu, Lampung, as reported by Antara, Thursday, September 2.
The President said that with water management from upstream to downstream through a cascade system, it is hoped that the planting intensity of farmers in Pringsewu and its surroundings will increase from twice a year to three times a year.
However, the Head of State reminded that the dam will function optimally if it is connected to a well-organized irrigation system, starting from primary, secondary, tertiary to quarterly.
He asked the Governor of Lampung, the Regent of Pringsewu and other relevant regents to pay attention to this matter.
"We hope that this dam will provide maximum benefits in order to support farmer productivity, help people who have difficulty with clean water, and reduce community losses due to flooding," he explained.
