Good News For The People Of Yogyakarta, YIA Airport Train Is Still Free Until September 16, 2021
JAKARTA - The Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) Airport Train service has been opened for general passengers since September 1 and the public can take advantage of the service at a rate of IDR 0 or free until September 16.
"The Rp0 tariff is intended to introduce and socialize the presence of YIA Airport Train to the general public," said Public Relations Manager of PT KAI Operational Region 6 Yogyakarta Supriyanto in Yogyakarta, quoted from Antara, Thursday, September 2.
Although the public can access YIA Airport Train services for free, passengers are still required to purchase tickets which can be obtained at the departure stations, namely Tugu Yogyakarta Station, Wates Station, and YIA Airport Station.
Ticket purchases are still mandatory because passenger capacity will be limited to a maximum of 50 percent of the total capacity in an effort to ensure that social distancing rules are met to reduce the potential for COVID-19 transmission.
A number of other requirements were also set to be able to access YIA Airport Train services, including the obligation to show STRP or other certificates issued by the local government or a letter of assignment from the company leadership.
Passengers do not need to show a vaccination card or certificate and a COVID-19 free letter from either the rapid test antigen or PCR swab examination.
However, at any time, random rapid tests can still be conducted on passengers at the station.
As during the trial at the end of August, the YIA Airport Train service, which serves the Tugu Yogyakarta Station route to Yogyakarta International Airport in Kulon Progo, is operated in eight trips or four round trips.
From Yogyakarta Station, YIA Airport Train departs at 05.00 WIB, 07.20 WIB, 10.19 WIB, and 14.02 WIB, while from YIA Airport departs at 10.25 WIB, 11.57 WIB, 14.55 WIB, and 16.49 WIB.
Starting September 17, YIA Airport Train will apply a fare of IDR 20,000 for passengers from Tugu Station or Wates Station to YIA Airport and vice versa.
Meanwhile, the fare from Tugu Yogyakarta Station to Wates Station is set at IDR 10,000. The journey from Yogyakarta Tugu Station to YIA Airport along 40.2 kilometers can be reached in 39 minutes.
"Traveling by train greatly shortens the time when compared to having to use a private vehicle via the highway because the travel time can reach 1.5 hours," he said.
The presence of YIA Airport Train as part of intermodal integration, he continued, is expected to make it easier for the public to access mass transportation.
