Portugal Vs Ireland 2-1: Scores 111 Goals, Ronaldo Is The Most Fertile Player On Planet Earth

JAKARTA - Cristiano Ronaldo brought the Portugal national team to a dramatic 2-1 win over Ireland in the fourth round of Group A qualifying for the 2022 World Cup in the European zone at the Algarve Stadium, Almancil, Wednesday local time.

Ronaldo actually had a chance to give Portugal an early lead in the 15th minute with a penalty, but his execution was saved by goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu.

Then in the 28th minute, another Portuguese opportunity from Diogo Jota's sharp header still hit the goal post.

The visitors then managed to steal the lead right at the end of the first half when Jamie McGrath's corner was headed by John Egan into the Portugal goal.

Portugal, who dominated more than 72 percent of possession throughout the match, were finally able to reap the fruits of their hard work a minute before the dispersal of normal time when Ronaldo met Goncalo Guedes' cross.

Ronaldo then fully paid for his penalty miss by scoring his second goal in the sixth minute of injury time, again using his head to head home Joao Mario's ball to seal Portugal's victory.

In another Group A match that took place simultaneously, Luxembourg picked up their second win at home to Azerbaijan with a score of 2-1.

Mica Pinto put Luxembourg ahead in the eighth minute before Gerson Rodrigues doubled it with a penalty in the 28th minute.

Azerbaijan had time to reply through a free kick goal by Emin Mahmudov, but Luxembourg managed to maintain the score 2-1 until dispersed.

These results make Portugal lead the Group A standings with a collection of 10 points, three points ahead of Serbia in second place.

Luxembourg is in third place with six points ahead of Ireland and Azerbaijan who are both still without points, according to the official UEFA website.

Next up in Group A on Saturday, September 4, Ireland will host Azerbijan and Luxembourg visit Serbia.
