Central KPI Employee With The Initials MS Ever Reported Harassment And Bullying Of His Office Colleagues To Komnas HAM
JAKARTA - Commissioner of the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) Beka Ulung Hapsara confirmed the report from MS, an employee of the Central Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) for harassment and bullying by his co-workers.
This report, he said, was carried out in 2017 via electronic mail or e-mail.
"It is true, the person concerned had complained via email to Komnas HAM in August-September 2017 regarding the sexual violence he experienced," Beka told VOI, Wednesday, September 1.
Furthermore, Komnas HAM stated that there were indications of violations from the analysis of existing complaints. So, said Beka, MS as a reporter is advised to report the harassment and bullying he experienced.
Beka hopes that KPI can take steps internally. "Then follow up according to applicable legal provisions so that the victim gets justice and is restored," he said.
As previously reported, the man with the initial MS described himself as a victim of harassment and bullying or bullying in the Central KPI environment. The confession was spread through a chain message on the short message application WhatsApp.
In response to this, the Central KPI immediately held a meeting to explore the matter of the confession.
"(We, ed) are in plenary first. Later the chairman will give the statement," said Central KPI Commissioner Mimah Susanti when contacted by VOI, Wednesday, September 1.
In the chain message, MS mentions a number of names and positions of the parties who sexually harassed him. In addition, in a message addressed to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), he admitted that he was bullied throughout 2012-2014.
"For two years I was bullied and forced to buy food for senior co-workers. They together bully me which makes me helpless. Even though we are equal and it's not my job to serve my co-workers. But together they humiliated and bullied me like errand boy," said MS in the chain message.
"Since I started working at KPI Pusat in 2011, countless times they have harassed, beat, cursed, and bullied without being able to fight. I myself and many of them. slowly," he added.
MS admitted that he was sexually harassed until it finally made him mentally disturbed because of stress. In fact, he admits, he often screams to himself as a result of the incident.
"The sexual harassment and bullying changed my mental pattern, made me stressed and felt humiliated, I was severely traumatized, but I couldn't help but survive to earn a living. Should the world of work at KPI really be like this? In Jakarta?" MS said.
At its peak, in 2016 he was often sick due to stress and in the end he was diagnosed with hypersecretion of gastric juice.
MS admitted that he had gone to Gambir Police Station to make a police report. However, the police did not accept the complaint.
He also complained about this to his superiors. However, the complaint only resulted in the relocation of the workspace.
Meanwhile, when he complained about the harassment and bullying to Komnas HAM, it was firmly concluded that the actions of his colleagues constituted a crime and MS was advised to report it to the police.
Even though he admits to being bullied and harassed, MS admits that he is still working at the Central KPI. Apart from the need, he also understands that the COVID-19 pandemic will make it difficult for him to find work.
"And besides, why do I have to leave the Central KPI? Aren't I the victim? Shouldn't the perpetrators be sanctioned or fired as a responsibility for their behavior? I'm right, why can't I say this to the public," he said.
"The bullying and sexual harassment that I experienced really made me unable to work at the Central KPI. But I don't want to increase the number of unemployed in this country," added MS.
