Bayern Munich Not Matched With Jurgen Klopp
JAKARTA - The chief executive of Bayern Munich, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, admitted that FC Hollywood has repeatedly looked for a coach. But when they set their sights on Jurgen Klopp, he was under contract with another club.
Last week, Klopp celebrated Liverpool's first Premier League title win. Previously, he won the Club World Cup in December and the Champions League last season.
Rummenigge opened his voice about his admiration for the charismatic 53-year-old man. He admitted that the Bundesliga champion fought many times to get Klopp's signature when he was still the boss of Borussia Dortmund.
He told Sport Bild: "I bowed and said: Congratulations to Liverpool!
"Jurgen Klopp is a great coach and a very respectful person, he doesn't put himself above other people or talk about how great he is. He's great, but he doesn't emphasize it."
Rummenigge said that Klopp might have coached Bayern if he was not under contract with another club.
He added: "Every time we look for a coach, Jurgen is under contract.
"But let's not forget that we have been blessed with other top coaches in recent years: Jupp Heynckes, Pep Guardiola, Louis van Gaal and now also Hansi Flick.
"When you are looking for a coach, the timing must be right."
Klopp is contracted by Liverpool until 2024. Meanwhile, head coach Bayern Flick signed a deal until 2023 after successfully bringing FC Hollywood to become the Bundesliga champion.
The future is still long. Munich's opportunity to land Klopp at the Alianz Arena is still wide open.
