Providing Rp33.68 Billion Clean Water Subsidy, Anies: We Have A Brother Whose Economy Is Weak But Spends Money To Get Water

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has proposed a clean water subsidy of Rp. 33.68 billion in the 2021 Revised APBD and 2022 APBD, whose services are provided by PAM JAYA.

Anies considers that this subsidy is intended for people who are economically weak, especially in mainland areas where the area is experiencing a clean water crisis and in the Thousand Islands.

For residents in areas who have difficulty getting clean water services, Anies considers there is a problem of economic inequality. Because it is difficult to get access to water, they pay a higher rate.

"We know that there is a big inequality. There are still our brothers whose economy is weak, but they have to pay big costs to get their basic right to water. The water needs are the same for those with high socio-economic status, but the cost of obtaining water is cheaper than people whose socio-economic status is the same. weak," Anies said in a virtual discussion, Wednesday, September 1.

Prior to the subsidy, residents in the water crisis area and the Thousand Islands had to pay a clean water tariff of IDR 32,000 per cubic meter. After the subsidy, the water tariff will be IDR 3,550 per cubic meter for simple households and IDR 4,900 per cubic meter for medium households.

"The rates have fallen by almost 90 percent. So, they pay only about 10 percent. In fact, this value has become something that is affordable," said Anies.

Likewise, residents of Jakarta who are on the mainland can only buy water from cart sellers because of the clean water crisis in their area. Often, they pay for water at IDR 70 thousand per cubic meter.

It is estimated that the cost of consuming clean water for one month is Rp. 600 thousand. While on the other hand, residents in areas who have access to PAM water may only be around Rp. 120,000 per month.

Currently, with the existence of water kiosk services in areas where access to clean water is difficult, the water consumption expenditure rate has decreased.

"Now, with the PAM water kiosk, residents who used to have to spend IDR 600 thousand per month are now enough with IDR 125,000 per month because the price per cubic meter is only IDR 3,550," explained Anies.

Furthermore, Anies said that his party is committed to gradually and continuously improving services and ensuring that the most difficult ones get clean water.

"There are two places, namely the Thousand Islands and areas where there is no piping network. In those two places, we are here to provide subsidized clean water services and ensure that there are PAM water kiosks that allow them to get clean water at an affordable price," Anies explained. .
