Indonesian National Sports Committee Officially Opens The National Sports Week XX Papua Fire Carnival 2021
JAKARTA - Chairman of the Central Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) Marciano Norman, officially opened the 2021 National Sports Week (PON) XX Papua fire carnival in welcoming the biggest sporting event in Indonesia which will be held on October 2-15.
"As we know, in organizing PON every year, the PON fire carnival procession is an activity that has become a tradition of organizing as an effort to share the warmth of sports week to all cities in Indonesia", said Marciano at a press conference Virtual Run Carnival Fire PON XX Papua 2021 via Zoom, Wednesday, September 1st.
However, due to the current COVID-19 pandemic situation, he continued, the PON fire procession cannot be carried out directly until some of the procession is carried out virtually.
"For that, let's participate and share this warmth by participating in the PON XX Papua 2021 fire carnival virtual run. Be part of the history of PON XX Papua 2021 and get a medal and special edition jersey for PON XX", said Marciano.

The Papua XX PON Fire Carnival itself is scheduled to pass through 7 cities for 20 days before the opening of the PON.
Starting from the source of eternal fire in the city of Bintuni, Teluk Bintuni Regency, West Papua Province, to 6 other cities in Papua Province, namely the city of Biak, Biak Numfor Regency, Timika, Mimika Regency, Wamena, Jayawijaya Regency, Merauke City, Merauke Regency, then Jayapura City and Sentani, Jayapura Regency.
The Secretary-General of the Central KONI, Tubagus Lukman, invites the Indonesian people to succeed in the 2021 PON XX Papua which will be officially opened by President Joko Widodo.
"PON XX in Papua has an important role as momentum for Indonesian unity through sports activities. The Papuan people will unite 33 contingents to participate in PON", added Tubagus.
Second, as a momentum for the rise of the Indonesian nation from the COVID-19 pandemic.
"By implementing strict health protocols, we will prove that we can remain productive as well as being disciplined in implementing health protocols", he said.
