Mahfud MD: Terrorism And Radicalism Will Be Strictly Reacted
JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD ensured that the government will take firm action against terrorism and radicalism.
This was conveyed by Mahfud during a Gathering of the Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law and Security, the Minister of Religion, and the Head of BNPB with Islamic Boarding School Caregivers, Religious Organizations, and interfaith leaders throughout the East Java Province, Tuesday night, Tuesday, August 31.
At that time, he answered the statement of the caretaker of the Annuqayah Islamic Boarding School Sumenep Madura, KH Moh. Hosnan Annafi' who asked the government to be firm in dealing with the potential for terrorism and radicalism in the country, especially after the occupation of the Taliban in Afghanistan.
This firmness, said Hosnan, needs to be done especially since the government is focusing on dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.
"The government will firmly deal with and take action against acts of terrorism and radicalism, whether it's the Taliban or not," Mahfud said in a written statement, Wednesday, September 1. He said the dialogue would not discuss whether the Taliban was a terrorist group or not. However, Mahfud admitted that the turmoil in Afghanistan had indeed warmed up in Indonesia.
However, the former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court has ensured that perpetrators of acts of terrorism or anyone who disturbs public peace will be hunted down in accordance with applicable laws.
"Indeed, when negotiations began between the Taliban and the Afghan government, which was under siege at that time, in Indonesia it was rather warm. Therefore, the authorities continued to pursue and arrest a number of people, because they had begun to take initial steps to carry out acts of terrorism. in various places," he concluded.
