Rorotan TPU Cemetery Land Collapses, Cause The Coffin Starts To Rotate
JAKARTA - A total of 10 plots of graves specifically for COVID-19 at the Rorotan Public Cemetery (TPU), Cilincing, North Jakarta, have collapsed. It is known that the Roroyan TPU area was originally a swamp area filled with soil.
Head of the City Parks and Forest Service, Suzi Marsitawati, said that the collapse of the tomb on the east side of the Rorotan TPU was caused by the coffin starting to rot.
"The collapse of the tomb often occurs due to the coffin that has begun to rot," said Suzi in her statement, Wednesday, September 1.
For this incident, Suzi said that her party immediately cleaned up the collapsed tomb plot. Then, the DKI Distamhut will add and compact the soil in each grave plot. This is done to anticipate the land of the tomb sinking again.
"Every time something collapsed, we immediately tidied it up again, immediately compacted it and formed the grave plot. What recently happened, there were 10 grave plots that collapsed, but the condition was not serious and the officers also immediately tidied up the grave plots," said Suzi.
Suzi also emphasized that although the graveyard is a former swamp, the backfill and compaction of the soil has been carried out using heavy equipment. Thus, the potential for collapse is small.
"We will continue to try to reduce the potential for land subsidence. This is commonplace, not only at special COVID-19 funerals, but also at ordinary funerals, especially those using coffins. We will always check the land regularly," he explained.
