Schoolchildren In Surabaya Are Starting To Enter Next Week, Mayor Eri: I Have My Own Policy

JAKARTA - The city of Surabaya, East Java will start face-to-face learning next week or Monday, September 6. This is after Surabaya entered the Enforcement of Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) level 3.

Mayor of Surabaya Eri Cahyadi said, in accordance with the Instruction of the Minister of Home Affairs (Inmendagri) regarding PPKM, the City of Surabaya was entered at level 3 so that it was allowed to carry out face-to-face learning (PTM) on a limited basis with a maximum capacity of 50 percent.

"Indeed, in the regulation it is stated that the maximum capacity is 50 percent, but I have my own policy. I will open it with a maximum capacity of 25 percent first. The plan is that this PTM will start next Monday," said Eri in Surabaya as reported by Antara, Tuesday, 31 August.

According to him, PTM should be done gradually. Therefore, he made the decision for a maximum capacity of 25 percent of PTM in advance, while monitoring the readiness and consistency of schools in implementing regulations according to the Ministry of Home Affairs.

"This is a form of our caution in implementing PTM on a limited basis. If the school consistently applies regulations according to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the capacity will automatically be increased to 30 percent to 50 percent gradually," he said.

He explained, schools that will implement PTM must first go through an assessment process. According to him, this must be done to ensure how ready school facilities and infrastructure are to implement PTM. He advised all school principals when PTM was implemented, the health protocols (prokes) had to be strictly implemented.

"In the Ministry of Home Affairs it is stated that PTM has rules before starting lessons, what kind of lessons after learning, and during breaks stay in class. All of that must really be carried out," he said.

He realized that during this pandemic, not all parents are willing if their children take part in PTM. Therefore, he emphasized that the implementation of PTM must still be based on the permission of the student's guardian.

"The most important thing is the approval of the parents. I encourage all school principals to submit a letter to the guardians of students, whether they agree or not if their children take PTM," he said. online or offline. If the guardian objected, then the child was allowed to take part in online learning.

"So, students who are at home can still participate in online learning," he said.

Mayor Eri appealed, the implementation of PTM must actually implement the rules contained in the Ministry of Home Affairs. Don't let the Surabaya City Government's good intentions to implement PTM be in vain because it doesn't follow the applicable rules.

"If that happens, I will revoke the school's permit not to do PTM anymore because the school is unable and unable to carry out the applicable rules. That is my responsibility," he said.

In fact, Eri Cahyadi stated that the PTM plan had been submitted in a virtual meeting with all principals of elementary and junior high schools throughout Surabaya in the Surabaya Mayor's Office, Monday, August 30.
