Police Arrest Gangs Of New Modded ATMs Blocking Card Holes

JAKARTA - The police have arrested a group of specialists who block automated teller machines (ATMs) who are acting with a new mode. This gang uses the opposite mode of the other perpetrators.

"The three people we have detained have the system reversed," said Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Yusri Yunus to reporters, Monday, August 30.

The mode used by the perpetrators with the initials AS, Y alias N, and CH alias D by blocking the card hole. That way the victim can not enter the ATM card.

Meanwhile, the modus operandi of other perpetrators is usually by blocking the hole so that the victim's ATM card cannot get out.

"The perpetrator carried out the action by pretending to help the victim. Even though the ATM had been exchanged by the perpetrator," said Yusri

"But the ATM in question (the perpetrator) is made thin. It has been made thin at the ends so that a normal ATM cannot enter, but if it is an ATM he (the perpetrator) can go inside," continued Yusri.

Furthermore, one of the suspects began to play his role. Where, he peeked at the victim's pin who was not aware that his ATM card had been exchanged.

"This is the time for the perpetrator to play using an ATM whose PIN is known to the victim. This is how he reverses the usual mode," said Yusri.

Based on the information from the perpetrators who were arrested in the Cimanggis area, Depok, on August 27, they have been acting for five months by deceiving 15 victims.

"The perpetrator is suspected under Article 363 with the threat of a sentence of 7 years in prison," said Yusri.
