This Is The Police's Step Regarding The Crowd Of Governor Victor Laiskodat And The Head Of The NTT Region
JAKARTA - The East Nusa Tenggara Regional Police stated that they would establish communication and coordination with relevant agencies regarding a viral video showing a crowd on Semau Island. The crowd was attended by the Governor of NTT Victor Laiskodat and a number of regents/mayors throughout NTT.
"In response to the viral video, the NTT Police will communicate and coordinate with relevant agencies in order to obtain more accurate resources and information," said Head of Public Relations of the NTT Police, Kombes Pol Rishian Krisna B.
The former Head of the North Central Timor Police (TTU) himself was reluctant to mention which agency he would meet to communicate and coordinate about the case.
Previously, it was reported that a viral video on social media showed crowds and alleged violations of health protocols during the inauguration of the NTT Regional Financial Access Acceleration Team (TPAKD) on Friday (27/8) at Otan Tourism Beach, Otan Village, Semau District, Kupang Regency.
The event was attended by NTT Governor Viktor Bungtilu Laiskodat, NTT Deputy Governor Josef Nae Soi and almost all regents and mayors throughout NTT.
The event was also attended by a number of local artists and several regional heads sang along without paying attention to health protocols. The incident then caused a lot of comments and also several academics asked the police to intervene to investigate alleged violations of health protocols in the area.
"The police in NTT must conduct an examination of the Governor of NTT and the organizing committee of the event, because the activity which was attended by many participants is suspected to have violated the health protocol for the prevention of COVID-19," said the academic who is also a sociologist at the University of Nusa Cendana Kupang, Dr. Lasarus Jehamat in Kupang.
The Sociology Lecturer at the University of Nusa Cendana Kupang said that officials should set a good example to the public on how to obey health protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic.
"It's no wonder that social disobedience by the community arises if there are similar activities during this pandemic carried out by the community, because the elites have set the wrong example in applying the prokes rules in the midst of implementing PPKM," he said.
