5 Residents Died In Landslide In Karo, North Sumatra
KARO - Five people died in a landslide in Padang Mas Village, Kabanjahe District, Karo Regency, North Sumatra.
Of the five victims found, two of them were adult women named Tia Silitonga (28) and Dewi Marpaung (48). While the other three are toddlers with the names Kasih br Tarigan (3), Anjel br Tarigan (5) and Bumi Riski (2).
Head of Operations Section for the Medan SAR Office, Zul Indra, explained that his party involved related elements such as the TNI, Polri and local communities to evacuate until noon.
The evacuation went smoothly by involving dozens of joint personnel and the operation was stopped during the day because the information obtained was that there were no more people who had lost their family members, so the search process was stopped.
"Initially, we found one female, named Dewi Marpaung and was evacuated to Kabanjahe. And at 12.35 we found another two-year-old toddler named Bumi Aditya," he said, quoted by Antara, Friday, August 27.
The landslide in Padang Mas Village, Kabanjahe District, Karo Regency occurred in the early hours of Friday at around two o'clock in the evening which damaged a total of five houses and killed up to five people due to strong winds and heavy rain.
The North Sumatra Provincial Government also helped evacuate landslide victims in Padang Mas Village, Karo Regency by sending heavy equipment and the Medan Basarnas Team to the location.
North Sumatra Governor Edy Rahmayadi said the evacuation was already underway and involved a number of related elements to help evacuate the dead and survivors.
"To help evacuate the landslide that damaged five houses in Karo Regency, the provincial government sent heavy equipment and a Basarnas team to help with the process," he said.
