Novel Baswedan's Demands Will Be Evaluated By The Attorney General

JAKARTA - Members of Commission III of the DPR RI have criticized the demands for a year in prison against two accused attackers of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Novel Baswedan.

When holding a meeting with Attorney General ST Burhanuddin, member of Commission III of the DPR RI from the NasDem Party faction, Taufik Basari, considered the demand for a one-year prison sentence felt strange.

"I followed the contents of the requisitor. In my experience as a lawyer before leaving, many of the reasons listed in the requisitor were beyond common sense," said Taufik in a meeting held at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Monday, June 29.

Taufik assessed that if this kind of oddity continues, it is not impossible that public trust in the Adhiyaksa Corps will decline. So, he asked Burhanuddin to explain the results of these demands.

"This is important for the Attorney General to show the public that law enforcement is trustworthy and the quality of the demands is qualified," he said.

In response to this, Attorney General ST Burhanuddin will evaluate the demands of the public prosecutor (JPU) against these two defendants.

"I will ask for another evaluation. Why? Because this prosecutor (should have) sued based on the facts found at the trial. Later we will balance it with the court's decision," said Burhanuddin at the meeting.

Furthermore, according to him, the decision taken by the judge in the trial should be in balance with the prosecutor's demands. If the opposite happens, he thinks there is something in the prosecution.

Burhanuddin also confirmed that the Attorney General's Office will evaluate the prosecutor who charged the two defendants with Novel sprinkling for only a year. "We will see the results of the verdict and evaluate," he said.

Previously, in the trial of Baswedan's chemical sprinkling case with the agenda of reading the charges, the Public Prosecutor (JPU) asked the two tedakwa, Rahmat Kadir Mahulette and Rony Bugis, to one year in prison.

"Demand that the panel of judges at the North Jakarta District Court examine and adjudicate this case to decide, two, to impose a sentence on the defendant Rahmat Kadir Mahulette for 1 year with an order that the defendant remains detained," said the prosecutor while reading out the indictment at the North Jakarta District Court, Thursday, 11 June.

In the indictment, the defendant Rahmat's actions were deemed proven to have fulfilled the elements of maltreatment with planning and resulted in serious injuries due to using sulfuric acid or H2SO4 to injure Novel Baswedan. Meanwhile, Rony is considered to have been involved in the act of persecution because he helped the persecution process.

In addition, the prosecutor said that what incriminated the two defendants was that their actions had tarnished the honor of the National Police institution.

"Like peanuts on the skin, because Novel was assigned to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) even though he was raised at the National Police, he is very arrogant, famous and familiar with the law, so that the defendant's intention to teach Novel a lesson by making Novel seriously injured," said the prosecutor.
