Chelsea Win 4 UEFA Awards, Jorginho Becomes Player Of The Year Eliminate De Bruyne And Kante

JAKARTA - Chelsea, who won the Champions League last season, won a number of UEFA 2020/21 awards, including the coronation of Jorginho as the Best Player.

Reporting Antara, Jorginho was one of four members of the Chelsea squad who won the trophy at the awards night which was held in conjunction with the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League group draw conducted by UEFA in Istanbul, Turkey, Thursday local time.

In addition to helping Chelsea win the Champions League last season, Jorginho also recently together with his compatriots led the Italian national team to win Euro 2020.

This achievement is certainly more flashy than the other two best player nominations, namely Manchester City's Belgian midfielder Kevin de Bruyne and Jorginho's teammate at Chelsea, N'Golo Kante.

Even so, Kante also won his own trophy, namely as the 2020/21 Champions League Player of the Year.

The other three Chelsea squad members who won the award were Edouard Mendy as Champions League Goalkeeper of the Year 2020/21, N'Golo Kante Best Midfielder and Thomas Tuchel as UEFA Best Coach, beating City manager Pep Guardiola and Italy coach Roberto Mancini.

Two other awards in the men's category, namely the Best Defender and Best Striker in the 2020/21 Champions League, respectively, were won by City defender Ruben Dias and Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland.

Meanwhile, in the women's category, all six award trophies will be sent to Barcelona, the team that won the Women's Champions League last season.

Alexia Putellas won the UEFA Women's Player of the Year and the Women's Champions League Best Midfielder, Sandra Panos won the Women's Champions League Best Goalkeeper, Jennifer Hermoso won the Women's Champions League Best Forward and Lluis Cortes the UEFA Women's Best Coach.

In fact, the Women's Champions League Best Defender trophy will also fly to Barcelona because Irene Paredes, who was still in Paris Saint-Germain's uniform last season, has now joined Barcelona.
