Minister Of Religion Yaqut: Those Who Insult Religious Symbols Must Be Prosecuted

JAKARTA - Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas asked the police to process the law on all parties suspected of conveying hate speech and insulting religious symbols.

"All citizens are equal before the law, so they must receive fair treatment, including those related to allegations of hate speech and insults to religious symbols," said Minister of Religion Yaqut, Thursday, August 26.

The Minister of Religion fully supports the firm stance of the Police in upholding justice. Whoever the perpetrator is, said the Minister of Religion, all those who insult religious symbols must be prosecuted, without exception.

"If he is suspected of conveying hate speech and insulting religious symbols, the law must be processed," he said.

Minister of Religion Yaqut also invited religious people to submit the legal process for cases of hate speech and insulting religious symbols to law enforcement. The Minister of Religion hopes that religious leaders will also continue to provide enlightenment and education about the importance of respecting differences.

"It is the duty of religious leaders to continue to increase the public's religious understanding of their respective religious beliefs and teachings, without having to insult each other's beliefs and teachings of other religions," he said.

"In the midst of efforts to continue to advance the nation and deal with the COVID-19 pandemic, let's together knit togetherness and care for brotherhood. Because those who are not brothers in the faith are brothers in humanity," continued the Minister of Religion.

It is known, the latest blasphemy case involves YouTuber, Muhammad Kece. Bareskrim has detained M Kece since Wednesday, August 25, evening. The detention was carried out after investigators examined Muhammad Kece as a suspect in the alleged blasphemy case.
