DKI Will Have Jakarta Film Week, An International Festival To Expand The Network Of Filmmakers
JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Tourism and Creative Economy Agency (Disparekraf) initiated the Jakarta Film Week event. This international film festival is planned to be held on 18-21 November 2021 by presenting professional filmmakers from within the country and international filmmakers.
"The DKI government wants to support the film industry and its actors, because the film industry in Indonesia has considerable potential. One of the things that triggers the development of new talents and audiences in the film industry is festivals," said Acting (Plt) Head of DKI Jakarta Disparekraf Gumilar Ekalaya at the virtual launch of Jakarta Film Week, Wednesday, August 25.
Jakarta, he continued, has a very important position in the film industry in Indonesia because it provides film stakeholders ranging from production houses, film educational institutions, human resources who are members of film worker associations, to film facilities and infrastructure.
"So it's time for Jakarta to hold a film appreciation and education event that is sustainable and has special attention in the development of the film industry," he said. This is also in line with the Disparekraf's vision to make Jakarta a cinema city.
"Jakarta Film Week is expected to be a place for Indonesian film actors, especially in Jakarta, to grow and become an example for the film industry in other regions to improve their quality," he added.
Jakarta Film Week Program Coordinator Lisa Siregar said the event would hold film competitions for national and international categories. Not only holding film competitions, the Jakarta Film Week series also held training for professionals in the film industry, public discussions, exhibition and meeting rooms for film workers, film screenings, and provided space for the film community to expand their network.
Lisa said that in Jakarta Film Week there is the Jakarta Film Fund, a short film making competition that provides production, technical and training support for the five selected proposals.
"This is a form of Jakarta Film Week's concern for the progress of young friends making short films who want to have a more decent experience," said Lisa.
Film activists can submit their work from today until September 30, 2021, while those who wish to participate in the Jakarta Film Fund can submit proposals until September 12, 2021. Further information about Jakarta Film Week can be obtained by visiting the website www.jakartafilmweek.com.
