Elon Musk Admits Tesla's Autopilot Technology Is Far From Perfect

JAKARTA - Tesla is famous for having autonomous driving technology in its electric cars. However, Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk stated that creating a fully autonomous version is more difficult than expected.

Citing Gizchina, Wednesday, August 25, Musk has publicly expressed his dissatisfaction with the latest beta version of Tesla's autopilot software, Software Full Self-Driving (FSD). It is known that FSD allows Tesla's electric cars to travel from home to work and back with almost no driver intervention.

FSD was first introduced in beta to enterprise testers and customer volunteers. The current version of FSD is Beta 9.2, allowing Tesla electric vehicles in some situations to automatically control steering in urban environments and overcome intersections.

But Musk via his Twitter page suddenly criticized the software. According to him, it is still far from perfect. On the other hand, Musk added that the team of specialists is actually very active in improving the FSD software.

Especially now that they have tasks like putting together program code to control cars both on city roads and on highways. Of course, this takes a lot of time to retrain the neural network, as Musk puts it.

CNBC International reports that hours later after Musk's tweet appeared, he came back with a new tweet stating he had tested FSD Beta version 9.3 driving from Pasadena to Los Angeles airport and he was feeling much better. Unfortunately, FSD Beta 9.3 is not yet available to thousands of Tesla drivers in the FSD Beta program.

Some time ago, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), released an investigation into 11 incidents involving Tesla electric vehicles on Autopilot, killing one person and injuring 17 others. NHTSA also conducted an official investigation whether the Autopilot had a safety defect or other factors that contributed to the accident.
