Dead Whale Shark Floating In Raja Ampat Waters, People Found Decomposing
JAKARTA - The people of Raja Ampat Regency, West Papua Province found a dead whale shark about ten meters long floating in the waters around Gam Island, Tuesday, August 24. The dead whale shark was floating in a rotting state and the cause of death was unknown to the public. Raja Ampat Regency said that the dead whale shark was found floating in front of Kordiris Homestay on Gam Island.
According to him, on the way from Arborek Village to Waisai, the capital of Raja Ampat district, he used a long boat and when he crossed the waters in front of Kordiris Homestay on Gam Island, he saw the whale shark was dead and floating in the current.
"We just took photos and continued our journey. We don't know the cause of death and it looks rotten," he said, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, August 24. Roy, a resident of Sawinggrai Village, Gam Raja Ampat Island, also said that he also announced the whale shark carcass but did not dared to approach. "We just saw and immediately continued our journey not to approach the whale shark carcass. We do not know the cause of death and it looks rotten," he added.
