KPK Unveils Four Most Popular Cases Until This August, Including Juliari Coal Bribery Case
JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said that the bribery case for the procurement of COVID-19 social assistance (bansos) in the Greater Jakarta area which ensnared former Social Minister Juliari Peter Batubara was one of the four cases that attracted the most public attention.
This was conveyed by the Deputy for Enforcement of the KPK Karyoto during a press conference on the Commission's First Semester Performance Achievements in the Field of Enforcement, Coordination, and Supervision.
"During Semester I 2021, there were several cases that drew attention, including the case of the COVID-19 social assistance which started with an arrest involving the Minister of Social Affairs. Currently, there are 3 defendants and 2 convicts," Karyoto said in a press conference broadcast on YouTube. KPK RI, Tuesday, August 24.
In the bribery case for the procurement of the COVID-19 social assistance, Juliari Batubara has been sentenced to 12 years in prison by the Jakarta Corruption Court for being proven guilty of corruption.
Next, the cases that have been highlighted by the public are the corruption case of bribery of lobster seeds at the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, the corruption case of PT Dirgantara Indonesia, and the corruption case that began with the Hand Catch Operation (OTT) in South Sulawesi.
In the case at the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, the KPK ensnared former minister Edhy Prabowo. He has been sentenced to five years in prison and a fine of Rp. 400 million by the Jakarta Corruption Court for accepting bribes from lobster seed exporters.
"While the PT Dirgantara Indonesia case is related to sales and marketing activities involving the Director of Aerostructure in 2007-2010, Director of Aircraft Integration in 2010-2012, and Director of Commerce and Restructuring for 2012-2017," said Karyoto.
The case, he continued, was in the spotlight after the alleged state losses reached Rp202,196,4967,761.42 and 650,945.27 US dollars.
"In this case, there are 5 defendants who are still in process at the Supreme Court and 1 convict.
In addition, another case that was highlighted was the OTT which ensnared the inactive Governor of South Sulawesi, Nurdin Abdullah. Karyoto said that currently there are 2 defendants, one of which is Nurdin and a convict.
