24 Thousand Doses Of COVID-19 Vaccine Injected Today, Jokowi Hopes East Kalimantan To Achieve Herd Immunity
JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) hopes that communal immunity or herd immunity in East Kalimantan (Kaltim) will soon be achieved. Moreover, as of today, there are 24 thousand COVID-19 vaccines being injected into the community in 9 districts/cities in this province, including the City of Samarinda.
"We hope that everything will run smoothly and communal immunity will soon be built throughout the province of East Kalimantan," Jokowi said in a press conference broadcast online on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube, Tuesday, August 24.
On that occasion, Jokowi also had a teleconference with a number of health facilities that were injecting the COVID-19 vaccine and one of them, came from West Kutai Regency.
Meanwhile, West Kutai Regency reports that it is currently vaccinating COVID-19 at two points with a total target of 2,800 people using the Moderna vaccine. However, because of the enthusiasm of the residents, this region asked for an increase in the dose.
Receiving a request for additional vaccines, Jokowi then ordered an additional dose to be given immediately. "Okay, later I will send it to the Health Office, to the Governor later so that it will be immediately transferred to West Kutai," he said.
A number of other areas such as East Kutai Regency and Penajem Paser also reported mass injection of vaccinations to the public.
Responding to a number of these reports, Jokowi then hopes that the vaccine will be given soon so that communal immunity in the community, especially in East Kalimantan Province can be achieved. This will reduce the spread of COVID-19 in the future.
In addition, Jokowi also requested that the vaccine injection program be carried out quickly.
"We hope that there will be speed in this vaccination program with the hope that the spread of COVID-19 will be reduced, so that we can eliminate it from East Kalimantan Province and of course from all over Indonesia," he said.
For information, President Jokowi today left for East Kalimantan to carry out a number of activities, such as reviewing the implementation of vaccinations for students of SMP Negeri 22 Samarinda. During his review, Jokowi was accompanied by Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto.
In addition, he was also accompanied by East Kalimantan Governor Isran Noor, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, and TNI Commander Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto.
