Greta Thunberg Youngest Person Of The Year Award Recipient
JAKARTA - Greta Thunberg, a climate change activist from Sweden, received the 'Person of the Year' award by Time Magazine. That means Greta is the youngest to receive the award, considering that he is still very young, around 16 years old.
In 2018, Greta Thunberg began running an environmental campaign by striking schools every Friday to protest in front of the Swedish parliament building. What Thunberg did went viral worldwide and became a popular movement with the hashtag #FridaysForFuture
Thunberg is increasingly voicing calls to care about climate change, inspiring many children in other parts of the world to join his campaign. In September 2019, he attended the UN Climate Conference held in New York, United States. Thunberg took out his anger at politicians for telling young people to tackle global climate change.
Greta Thunberg further proved herself to be no ordinary teenager after she criticized the company's politicians and CEOs again at a climate change conference held in Madrid, Spain.
"The most obvious threat is when politicians and CEOs seem to take real action, even though they are not doing anything and it is done by smart accountants and creative public relations teams," criticized Thunberg, quoted by the BBC, Thursday, December 12, 2019.
However, not everyone is amazed by Thunberg's vocal attitude. Prior to his attendance at the climate change conference in Madrid, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro called Thunberg a "bad boy" after conveying his concern for the Indians in the Amazon.
"Greta said that the Indians died because they defended the Amazon. It is very impressive that the press made room for such brats," said Bolsonaro.
Thunburg has previously clashed with US President Donald Trump who questioned climate science and fought many of US climate laws. In addition, Russian President Vladimir Putin has also called him "a kind but uninformed teenager".
Greta Thunberg's body was small, but big in guts for one purpose; realize that climate change is real and cannot be solved only by representatives of a company or government. Even though she was often "bullied" by people who were much older than her, Greta Thunberg never took a single step back, instead her determination was stronger.
