Rivaldo's Advice For Barca, Who This Season Has Not Been Impressive

JAKARTA - Barcelona again slipped from the top of the La Liga standings. Los Blaugarana's game under coach Quique Setien failed to impress a number of fans and pundits, especially Rivaldo. The Barca legend said Setien had to try something new.

The return of Suarez to the starting line-up did not have a positive impact on Barca. In addition, it is said that Martin Braithwaite seemed more comfortable in Setien's system than did Antoine Griezmann.

"It is clear that Barcelona have to improve their game, and it is up to the coach, Setien has to find a formula to do something new," Rivaldo explained in an interview with Betfair at Camp Nou. Launching MARCA, Friday, June 26.

"He needs to find a way to take advantage of the quality of the players he has.

"Of course, the last game made everyone doubt the progress of this team because we are used to seeing different Barcelona."

When asked more deeply about Los Cules' current appearance, the former Barcelona forward said that the length of his hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic may have an impact on the Catalan club.

"I would like to believe that his last, mediocre appearance was the result of the strange times we are living in," added Rivaldo.

"I hope in the next two or three games they raise their level of play."

Ansu Fati and Riqui Puig have been playing regularly this season and it looks like they will be key members of Setien's team in the coming matches. But Rivaldo advised Setien to be careful in making decisions.

"These two players are important for the team, and have a bright future, but I don't think they make the difference," said Rivaldo.

"The responsibility has to be with the veterans, those who are more experienced and they are the players who have to give more.

"I read in the media that they have more than 30 players, but I don't believe that is a problem."
