The Wait Is Over, Liverpool Win The Premier League
JAKARTA - Liverpool ended a three-decade wait to win another trophy in England's highest caste competition. The Reds were confirmed as Premier League champions after Manchester City lost to Chlesea 1-2 at Stamford Bridge on Thursday, June 25 evening.
Mathematically, Pep Guardiola's team can no longer catch Jurgen Klopp's men. City's maximum points if they win all the remaining seven games is 84. Meanwhile, Liverpool, now alone have bagged 86 points.
Throughout the last season, Klopp's troops have clung to City on the standings. Despite raking in 97 points, they had to settle for finishing behind City who won the back-to-back title.
But this season is the opposite. It is the club from Merseyside who are going on non-stop. Liverpool are entitled to receive their 19th league title.
Liverpool have only dropped two points from their opening 27 games. The Reds didn't even taste defeat in the Premier League until the final day of February when they were beaten 3-0 by Watford at Vicarage Road.
By that time their lead over City was already 22 points. However, the league was suspended for three months due to the COVID-19 pandemic, delaying their title as champions for the first time since 1989-90.

However, Klopp's arrival from Borussia Dortmund to replace Brendan Rodgers in 2015 turned Liverpool into a powerful team. In the Champions League final 12 months ago, the Reds proved it by beating Tottenham to win Europe's premier club competition for the sixth time.
