The Importance Of Maintaining Air Quality During The COVID-19 Pandemic

JAKARTA - During the COVID-19 pandemic, implementing health protocols by diligently cleaning the body after doing outdoor activities is important. However, keeping the environment clean is equally important. Because, it will also affect the condition of the body.

A member of the national task force's public communication team, Dr. Reisa Broto Asmoro, said that environmental cleanliness that must be maintained during the pandemic is meeting buildings, shopping centers, and houses, or places where there is a lot of activity.

The easiest way that can be done, is to maintain the room air quality by providing or opening air vents. So, the air circulation in the room can run well.

"Ensuring that homes, work spaces, meeting rooms and places for interaction and activity must have good ventilation or air ducts. This is very good for health from any side we look at, both in terms of preventing disease and maintaining health," said Reisa at Graha BNPB, Jakarta, Thursday, June 25.

In general, a good room should have two air vents and they are located opposite each other. The goal is to prevent the same air from remaining in the room. So, later there will be air change and of course it will improve the air quality in the room.

"A room with a maximum airflow system usually has a cross ventilation with 2 openings for air flowing across from each other. Cross ventilation will minimize the air from stagnating in a room," said Reisa.

The benefits of good air quality

By maintaining air quality, of course some benefits are felt. In terms of health, it can support a productive lifestyle. Then, with the air ventilation, sunlight will enter, especially through the window.

Sunlight, especially in the morning, is an open secret that has many health benefits. Because, ultraviolet rays can prevent respiratory problems and are rich in vitamin D.

"It can help improve health based on research, a room exposed to ultraviolet light can reduce the risk of respiratory problems and most importantly the body will get the benefits of vitamin D which is good for bone and heart health," said Reisa.

Another benefit is on the economic side. Because, with the ventilation can reduce the duration of using air conditioning. So, the electricity bill will be cheaper.

"Homeowners can save on the cost of using air conditioners or air conditioners because they always get cool air blows," concluded Reisa.
