Police Say Drugs Caused Brawl In Johar Baru
JAKARTA - Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief Kombes Pol Hengki Haryadi stated that the rampant brawls that occurred in the Johar Baru area, Central Jakarta were due to the stimulus for drug abuse.
According to the Police Chief, although the cases of Public Order and Security (Kamtibmas) in the Central Jakarta area have decreased, he acknowledged that there are still one or two cases of brawls and violence occurring in his area.
"In Central Jakarta itself, the decline is very low, there are one or two cases of brawls and violence. They are stimulated by drugs," said Hengki at the Central Jakarta Metro Police Headquarters, Friday, August 20.
The police chief said the incident was also triggered by provocation activities that were often carried out on social media and led to chaos.
Not only there, the COVID-19 pandemic situation has also more or less greatly impacted the occurrence of these acts of violence.
"This situation is very vulnerable to a comprehensive Kamtibmas atmosphere," he said.
Meanwhile, one of the residents of Johar Baru with the initials YS said the same thing. Brawls that often occur in areas involving residents of Kampung Rawa Village and Tanah Tinggi Village, Johar Baru, Central Jakarta are often said to be one of the diversion strategies in drug transactions.
YS said that although he could not confirm directly, he often heard issues related to this from several local residents.
"I don't really understand drug transactions, but I've heard that there are things like that (drug transactions). The problem is that I have migrated here since I was little, but that (issue) is already well-known here. here it is prone to fights," he said when met in the Paris City Bridge area, Johar Baru.
YS added, there are often fights here. If there is a brawl, it is usually a drug transaction or it is known that goods have entered.
"Especially if the brawl time is up to 30 minutes," said YS.
The trigger for the brawl, continued YS, has various modes. Like throwing firecrackers, dropping people's motorbikes or just throwing harsh words.
"It's easiest here to create chaos between residents. It's like a direct hit, so it's an item," he said.
Meanwhile, BW (45) another resident admitted that he was tired of the brawls that occurred in his area. Brawls often occur between the residents of Baladewa and Tanah Tinggi every year.
"Every year it must happen. And every few years there are people who become victims, both injured and died," he said.
BW said that this brawl was a diversion for drug transactions. It's as if the illicit goods enter a place.
"The police occasionally search the Tanah Tinggi Flat. There the drugs are quite disturbing. Whether it's putau, shabu, marijuana can be found there," he said.
Meanwhile, to be able to get these illicit goods is not easy. Only regular buyers or through acquaintances of dealers can buy drugs inside.
"It's pretty neat there. If there were strangers who weren't known, the dealers would have fled. There were informants there," he said.
