Istana Negara Announces Ismail Sabri Yaakob Prime Minister Of Malaysia
JAKARTA - Ismail Sabri Yaakob will be Malaysia's next prime minister, the Malaysian State Palace said on Friday following several days of political uncertainty in the country.
Comptroller of the Royal Family and Household Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin, in a statement said, in accordance with Ismail Sabri's nomination as prime minister by 114 members of parliament, achieved a majority to form a new government.
"In line with that and in line with Articles 40(2)(a) and 43(2)(a) of the Federal Constitution, His Majesty has agreed to appoint Ismail Sabri Yaakob (Bera MP) as Malaysia's ninth prime minister," the statement read. like quoting CNA Friday 20 August.
The plan, if there are no changes and obstacles, the inauguration of Ismail Sabri Yaakob as the new prime minister will be held on Saturday tomorrow at 14.30 local time.
Previously, the resignation of Muhyiddin Yassin on Monday had plunged Putrajaya into political turmoil. The Malaysian king accepted his resignation and appointed him interim prime minister until a new government could be formed.
On Tuesday, the king summoned all the leaders of the major political parties to the palace, as he sought to identify a new prime minister. There are currently 220 MPs and two vacant seats in the Lower House.
All MPs are required to submit a statement to the State Palace declaring someone they support, to be the next prime minister by 4pm on Wednesday.
Malaysia's king previously said the new prime minister should submit a vote of confidence in parliament as soon as possible. He summoned the 114 MPs who pledged to support Ismail Sabri on Thursday to verify their stand.
And, a special meeting of Malay rulers was held on Friday, where the king shared MPs' decisions on who they support as the next prime minister.
