Israel Launches Air Strikes On Damascus And Homs In Syria

JAKARTA - Syria's air defense systems faced another air attack from Israel in rural areas of Damascus on Thursday, according to state-owned Ekhbariya TV and SANA news agency.

A Syrian military source said in a statement that Israel carried out an air strike at night with a burst of missiles from southeast of Beirut, in Lebanon.

Citing Reuters Friday, August 20, the air strikes this time targeted several targets in the city of Damascus and several other targets in the city of Homs.

The Israeli military declined to comment on the reported attacks in Syria. Meanwhile, the sound of planes was heard in and around Beirut.

Lebanese Defense Minister Zeina Akar condemned the attack, saying it blatantly violated Lebanese airspace at low altitude, causing panic among residents.

"The attack violates UN Security Council resolution 1701, to resolve the 2006 Lebanon war," said Akar.

He also asked the United Nations to prevent Israel from carrying out air strikes in Syria using Lebanese airspace. Akar said he had sent a complaint to the United Nations.

Meanwhile Syria said its air defenses confronted the missiles of aggression and shot down most of them. The impact of this air strike is now being evaluated.

"During the airstrike, a plane belonging to the Lebanese airline Middle East Airlines arriving from Abu Dhabi had to stay in Syrian airspace for about 10 minutes before landing in Beirut, as did the plane from Turkey's Pegasus airline," said Fadi Alhassan, acting general manager. for the Lebanese civil aviation authority.

For information, citing The Jerusalem Post, Syria accused Israel of attacking a military post belonging to an Iranian-backed militia near Quneitra last Tuesday.
