Tribal War In Nduga Papua Causes 3 People To Be Injured By Arrows, Cases Are Settled By Custom

JAYAPURA - The Resort Police of Nduga, Papua, handled a case of inter-tribal conflict that occurred in Nogolaid Village, Kenyam District, which resulted in three people being injured by arrows.

The dispute between the people of Wosak District and the people of Iniye District occurred on Wednesday, August 18th. The Nduga Police Chief, Kompol I Komang Budiartha, admitted that the members had fired warning shots because the masses of the two groups did not want to disperse and even fired arrows at each other.

"We are trying to provide understanding to the masses from the Wosak District community, that if there is a problem, don't solve it by means of tribal wars," Komol Komang said, quoted by Antara, Thursday, August 19.

He said his party had asked representatives from the Wosak District community and the Iniye District community to go to the Nduga Police to resolve the issue.

The dispute between the two community groups was caused by an affair that occurred on 5 July, and was resolved according to custom, but there were parties who did not accept it until the war broke out.

"The case has been settled according to the custom where the people from Wosak District have paid cash fines to the people from Iniye District which were carried out in Nogolaid Village," explained Kompol Komang.

The Nduga Police Chief admitted that his party and the Nduga Regional Secretary, Namia Gwijangge, were trying to provide understanding to the people in the two regions so that they would no longer fight.

If there are problems that are stuck, he said, the police and local governments will help solve them, Komol Komang added. In this incident, three residents suffered arrow wounds, namely Isen Tabuni (20), Dogeles Tabuni (30), and Ebes Tabuni (19).
