Seeing Forest Fires From The Space Station Makes Astronauts Sad
JAKARTA – An astronaut who lives on the International Space Station (ISS), Megan McArthur was recently reported to feel sad when she saw Earth from space. Because the catastrophic fires have devoured forests in a number of places on Earth such as in the US and Turkey. The big fire can apparently be seen from space.
"We are very sad to see fires across large parts of the Earth, not just in the United States," McArthur said.
The astronaut revealed that scientists have warned of the dangers of forest fires that pose a serious threat to Earth. To tackle this problem McArthur called for the global community to work together.
“This is a warning to the entire global community. It takes the entire global community to face this and overcome these challenges,” he said.
Through satellites, astronauts can see forest fires occurring on Earth in the form of smoke clouds of astronomical proportions. The forest fires occurred in a number of places such as in Greece, Siberia, Spain, to the Pacific Northwest.
The disaster made a number of countries in the world work hard to tackle forest fires. The United States was forced to recruit more firefighters to stop the fires from spreading.
In addition, recently severe fires also hit Turkey. The fire has spread and burned the forests in the hilly area. President Erdogan called the fire the worst fire in history.
The fires in Turkey have also caused massive damage and forced thousands of civilians and tourists in residential areas and hotels on the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts to flee elsewhere.
