Football Clubs Start Adopting Crypto, This Time PSV Eindhoven Can Inject Funds In Bitcoin

JAKARTA – Recently, more and more football clubs have started adopting cryptocurrencies. Dutch football club PSV Eindhoven is reportedly starting to adopt crypto. PSV has partnered with local crypto exchange Anycoin Direct. From the agreement the club will receive an injection of funds in the form of Bitcoin (BTC).

Prior to PSV, one of the English clubs Wattford had entered into an agreement with one of the most popular meme cryptocurrency Dogecoin. A number of Italian football clubs also receive sponsorship from the crypto industry such as Inter, SS Lazio and other clubs.

Anycoin Direct will pay PSV Eindhoven with a number of Bitcoins. However, both parties did not mention the amount of the injection of funds from the local crypto exchange.

The club only said it was part of a new sponsorship deal. Anycoin Direct will become PSV Eindhoven's official partner in the next two seasons. PSV became one of the first football clubs in Europe to receive funding in the form of Bitcoin.

Launching Cointelegraph, Frans Janssen as commercial director of PSV Eindhoven is reported to have created a Bitcoin wallet to accept sponsors as part of the agreement that has been made.

“As a club in the heart of the Brainport region, we are always innovating, cryptocurrencies fit this picture very well,” said Janssen.

In April 2021, PSV Eindhoven began to explore the creation of non-fungible tokens (NFT). The club had auctioned off the European Cup Final in 1988 although at that time PSV managed to beat Portuguese club Benfica. In addition, the NFT has also received an official signature from the PSV goalkeeper in the final match, namely Hans van Breukelen.

Football clubs in Europe are starting to look at cryptocurrencies and they are also open to sponsorship from the crypto industry. Some time ago, two English clubs, Arsenal and Manchester City, collaborated with Socios.com to present the club's fan token. Lately, Lionel Messi is also reported to have received a payment in the form of a PSG crypto fan token.

Arsenal has issued AFC fan tokens, as well as Manchester City with CITY fan tokens. With the fan token, the club can get closer to its fans around the world. In this case, fans can also take part in every important club decision through online polls. Apart from that, fans can also access the prizes the club has to offer. Both tokens have the backing of the Chiliz Socios (CHZ) blockchain.
