5 Facts About The Movie Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings

JAKARTA - Marvel held the premiere of the film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings on Monday, August 16, Los Angeles time. The film will be released in September.

The presence of Shang-Chi is highly anticipated by the public because he is the first superhero from Asia made by Marvel. Of course, the culture and stories of Shang-Chi can be felt by the audience.

Shang-Chi is a character created by Steve Englehart and Jim Starlin in 1972. Shang-Chi's story is inspired by actor Bruce Lee who is known for his martial arts abilities. The character Shang-Chi appeared in the 1973 Marvel Special Edition #15 comic.

It took Marvel more than a decade to make Shang-Chi into film format. Due to the Infinity Saga, Marvel has postponed production of the Shang-Chi and Ant-Man films.

In 2018, Marvel Studio wanted to make a film with an Asian main character after seeing the success of Black Panther and Crazy Rich Asians. Production officially started in February 2020 but was stopped due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The character of Shang-Chi is Simu Liu's debut in the Marvel universe. Shang-Chi is the son of Wenwu (Tony Leung). Shang-Chi has two best friends, Katy (Awkwafina) and Jon Jon (Ronny Chieng).

On one occasion, Katy and Jon Jon realized Shang-Chi had extraordinary martial talent and was a descendant of the Ten Rings organization.

The Ten Rings organization was first introduced through the first Iron Man film. Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige stated that the Shang-Chi story will take place when Tony Stark is kidnapped and makes weapons for an organization.

The organization is led by Wenwu otherwise known as The Mandarin. The figure of Shang Chi does not want to be a member of a criminal organization and chooses to live in the city.

Not only the production, the film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings had been delayed several times. The film was originally scheduled to premiere on February 12.

Later, Disney moved the date to May 7 due to the pandemic. After that they postponed it again to July 9 and changed it to September 3.
